About The Trek:
Roopkund trek is the one of the most scenic and adventurous treks in India. This trek starts from Wan, a quaint village perched on the green slopes of mountains at an altitude of approx 8,000ft. The trail passes by the small huts, cattle sheds, step-farming fields. Little children greet you with innocent smile; the shepherd boy leisurely walks past with his flock of sheep. The path takes you to the top of a hill to a place called 'Ran Ka Dhar', where enchanting scenery opens up before you and you get to witness the first glimpse of Mt Trishul. Trail further goes down the hill to Neel Ganga River which flows down from the Bugyal. Treacherous uphill trek through dense forest starts after crossing the Neel Ganga. Walking through Chir-Pines and Rhododendron forest, listening to the sound of chirping birds, rustling of leaves and gurgling of narrow streams, brings one closer to Mother Nature. Further ahead, seemingly endless stretch of green meadows of Bedni Bugyal surrounded by many Himalayan peaks in the horizon will surely leave you awe-struck. This is considered to be Asia’s largest alpine meadows and is a huge grazing ground for mules, horses and sheep. Reflection of Mt Nanda Ghunti and Mt Trishul in the Bedni-Kund add to the beauty of this place. The most exciting place of this entire trek is the Skeleton Lake- Roopkund, where you can see Human skeletons that are 8-10ft long! The thrill and joy that you’d experience during the trek would be all worth it for the pains you take to climb up! So come, let’s go and uncover the mystery of the skeleton Lake – Roopkund with PARVAT BUDDIES.

Did you Know?

Roopkund (also called the Skeleton Lake) is a crater on the mountain, a dip at the cusp of the mountain. One has to climb down 50ft to reach the edge of the lake. As per the local forklore in medieval time, King Jadhawal of Kanauj wanted to celebrate the birth of a heir by undertaking pilgrimage to the Nanda Devi mountains in the Garhwal Himalayas. However, he disregarded the rule of pilgrimage by boisterous singing & dancing. The entourage earned the wrath of local deity Latu. They were caught in terrible hailstorm & were thrown in Roopkund Lake.
